Saint-Tropez: a popular yet authentic small town

Located in the Var department, Saint-Tropez might be the most famous Provencal town of the Southeast France. It became an internationally-known seaside resort after World War II and attracted first French artists then American jet set and tourists from around the world. Nowadays the little town establishes itself as a must-see destination which holds numerous cultural treasures and a striking history.

Set 65 miles from Marseille, the small town of Saint-Tropez is mostly known for its five-stars Hôtel Bybos and Les Caves du Roy, inaugurated in 1967 by Brigitte Bardot and Gunter Sachs as well as for its regatta held in the bay, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. This event gathered more than 50 yachts up to 50 meters long every year.

The city also welcomed many film sets such as And God Created Woman starring Brigitte Bardot, The Policeman from Saint-Tropez featuring French movie star Louis de Funès and The Swimming Pool with Alain Delon, Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin. The town also hosted the making of the television series Saint-Tropez, broadcasted in over 100 countries.

As for the art connoisseurs, they know the Provencal town played a great part in Modern Art history. Thus, Paul Signac first lived there and encouraged artists such as Henri Matisse or Pierre Bonnard to settle in Saint-Tropez. In this way, the painting style of pointillism and Fauvism appeared in Saint-Tropez. Today the Musée de l’Annonciade testifies of its emergence on the French Riviera.

Set aside the town history, it also offers great spots to visit as its typical little streets, its Provencal market, its Citadel and its cannons, and the Pampelonne beach. Then, be sure not to miss the opportunity to rest and enjoy a bit of the jet set high-life and authencity of the small town of Saint-Tropez, and rent yourself a luxurious French Riviera property with Cap Riviera to make your stay an unforgettable one.
